Employee Testimonials -Speech-Language Pathologist

BeccaDeb

Deb Harr had a desire to work with children with special needs. That desire brought to her Heartspring over 25 years ago. In 1981, Deb joined the staff at Heartspring working with hearing impaired children in a preschool classroom. It was there that she learned how to help children learn to listen and to speak.

In addition to working with children, Deb also had the opportunity to work with adults through the Nursing Home/Hospital program. As the coordinator of this program, she provided much needed services to adults who had suffered head trauma or stroke.

Today, Deb’s focus is working with children who come to Heartspring Pediatric Services for outpatient therapy where she provides a fully array of communication services for young children and their families. Parents are thankful for the time Deb spends with them, sharing her knowledge and offering assistance to them. “I feel empowered,” said Lisa, a Heartspring mom whose daughter, Preslie, sees Deb twice a week. “Miss Debbie has given me ideas of games to play at home so I know what I need to do to work with her.”

It is Deb’s hope that all children “develop sufficient language and communication that will enable them to learn from everyday activities and acquire skills for life,” she said.

Deb truly enjoys working closely with children and their families and “having the ability to make an impact on people’s lives.” Deb collaborates with her colleagues when necessary to provide the best treatment for her clients. “It is stimulating to work with other professionals to overcome or diminish the effects of a child’s weakness by designing treatment activities that capitalize on individual strengths,” said Deb.

On July 9, 2007, Deb was honored at the Heartspring Recognition Banquet for her 25 year commitment to the children of Heartspring.
