Heartspring teacher Kim Thomas featured in special education textbook

Kim ThomasKim Thomas, lead teacher at the Heartspring School, is featured in the first edition of the college text, Special Education for Today’s Teachers: An Introduction, published by Prentice Hall. The text focuses on professionalism, instructional application and reflection in the field of special education. Each chapter begins with a feature called My Profession, My Story which introduces a teacher and presents her background, how she came to the profession, her dispositions and characteristics, and how she relates to daily teaching practice and the profession. Thomas is profiled in the chapter dedicated to Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Thomas has been a teacher at the Heartspring School since 2001. Along with her teaching duties, she is also the director of professional development for Heartspring. In 2005, Thomas was named as a Model of Excellence by Exceptional Parent Magazine for her dedication to teaching children with special needs.
