As the director of e-Education I am afforded the ability to see how my work in e-Education development positively impacts the training that Heartspring staff members receive, and how that is directly reflected in their interactions with the children at Heartspring. I experienced similar rewards in knowing that each conference I organized had an impact on children outside of Heartspring whose teachers and therapists attended the sessions. Read more »

Danielle Lewis- Case Manager

Danille Lewis started working at Heartspring in 1996 as a paraeducator. Here she worked as a para and a home coordinator assistant for several years and was then hired to work privately by one of our student’s families when he transitioned home. After two years in that position Danille returned to Heartspring, again as a paraeducator. Read more »

Vickie - Lead Cook

Vickie Hayes has been making a difference in the lives of Heartspring school students since April 2006 as the lead cook in the cafeteria. Cheryl - Vocational Training Program Coordinator

Since 1975, Cheryl O’Brien has been making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with special needs at the Heartspring School. Throughout her tenure, Cheryl has been active in several areas within the school including a preschool, the physical education department, an oral muscular therapy program and Camp Logos. In 2003, she implemented the Vocational Training Program at the Heartspring School which serves as a training workshop preparing students for their future careers once they transition out of Heartspring. Carol - Audiologist

Carol Jared Brown, audiologist in the Heartspring Hearing Center, is celebrating 25 years with Heartspring. Carol obtained her BS in Speech, Language Pathology and Audiology from OSU in 1981. She went on to achieve her Masters of Science in Audiology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1983. Read more »

Looking Back Over 75 Years

They all came to Heartspring for different reasons, work in different departments and have varying daily duties, yet one thing binds ten Heartspring employees together - a dedication the organization that spans over 25 years. Through many changes including a new name and moving the campus across town, Cheryl O’Brien, Linda Parmiter-Jacobs, Michael Pennington, Verlene Warner, Teri Hubbard, Mary Walker, Nikki Shirley, Debbie Harr, Steve Stoffregen and Carol Jared-Brown have dedicated their careers to ensure that Heartspring is a place where children and adults receive the best education, therapy and care; a place where miracles happen. “The fact that no matter who comes and who goes, this organization continues to work miracles for some very special people,” said Nikki Shirley, human resources assistant who has been at Heartspring since 1979. Stephanie - Lead Paraeducator

Heartspring has long had a referral bonus program for employees who refer applicants who are hired as paraeducators. Employees are encouraged to only refer people they would want to work with their own kids, and people they know they could count on to come to work and be here for the kids. Dana - Home Coordinator

After working in a public school classroom helping children with mental retardation for six years, Dana Trombley was looking for a career where she could continue to help children with special needs that accommodated her job as a mom of teenage children. In June 2001, she found just the position at Heartspring as a paraeducator, working weekends in one of the six group homes on campus. “I applied at Heartspring because I enjoy working with children with special needs,” said Dana. Kristina - Coordinator of Outreach Programs

Kristina Baker has been at Heartspring since April of 2003. She started as an Admissions Specialist, worked for a year as a Marketing Associate and in February of 2007 she was named the Coordinator of Outreach Programs. Travis - Adapted Physical Education

Leading an active lifestyle is an important part of anyone’s life. Through programs put in place by adapted physical education teacher Travis Grover, Heartspring School students have a myriad of opportunities to get active. Grover, who manages the physical education component for every student at Heartspring uses sports and recreation activities to expose the students to different activities that get them moving and allow them to experience new things. I believe I became involved in Special Education because I have always found myself drawn to kids who society would lead us to believe as not as valuable. I believe every person has equal value in Gods eyes and every human was created with an important purpose in life. I have 2 great daughters; Allie who is enrolled at WSU working towards her Nursing degree and Macy a sophomore in high school who wants to be a Special Education teacher when she grows up. Lori Neel is a registered nurse and the medical office manager at Heartspring. Lori graduated with her nursing degree in December of 1995 and worked at Wesley Hospital on the Pediatric floor for 10 years prior to coming to Heartspring. Connie - Director of CARE and Autism Outreach

Hear news radio talk show host Jack Rice from WCCO News/Talk 830 in Minneapolis, Minnesota interview Connie Erbert. Connie Erbert is the Director of CARE and Autism Outreach at Heartspring. Erbert , a graduate of Fort Hays State University, with graduate work through the University of Kansas, and the University of North Carolina, has more than 20 years of experience in special education. Lisa - Classroom Lead Paraeducator

In 1993, Lisa Jones began her career helping the children of Heartspring. She learned about the Institute of Logopedics (now Heartspring) while attending classes at Wichita State University. She had an assignment to observe classes, and while doing so, she was offered a job. Read more »

Taton - Teacher

For almost three years Taton Stambaugh-Tubbs has been making the two-hour commute to Heartspring from a small town north of Wichita, where he lives with his wife and their three young daughters. While attending Emporia State University, Taton discovered his desire to pursue a career in special education. Steve - MIS Manager

Steve has dedicated half of his life to the mission at Heartspring. In 1982, he joined the staff as a home paraeducator. Since beginning his career, he transitioned to Crisis/Assessment Unit Counselor, Psychological Services Assistant, and is currently the Management Information Systems Manager (MIS). Read more »

June began her position as teacher on July 31, 2006. Before coming to Heartspring, June was working one-on-one with an autistic student in Topeka. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Cross Categorical Special Education, both from Fort Hays State University. Read more »

Michael

Son carries on father's commitment to Heartspring According to the Department of Labor, the national average for number of years with an employer is three to five years. Michael and his father do not fit that statistic. Michael is continuing a practice started by his father, Glenn who worked for the Institute of Logopedics for 42 years. Read more »
