Sometimes it’s the littlest things…
that can offer clues to your child’s development. Now is the time to act if you have concerns. These are some of the milestones to look for while watching your child grow.
3 Months
• turns head toward bright colors & lights
• follows moving objects with eyes
• recognizes bottle or breast
• responds to loud sounds
• grasps rattle or hair
6 Months
• turns toward source of normal sound
• reaches for toys & picks them up
• rolls over (back to front and front to back)
• moves toys from one hand to the other
• plays with toes
12 Months
• reaches sitting position without assistance
• pulls self to a standing position
• drinks from a cup
• enjoys peek-a-boo & patty-cake
• responds to simple verbal requests
• bangs two objects together
18 Months
• walks around furniture
• likes to pull, push or dump things
• follows simple directions
• pulls off shoes, socks or mittens
• likes to look at pictures
2 Years
• stacks two or three blocks
• turns two or three pages at a time
• uses two to three word sentences
• says names of toys
• recognizes familiar pictures
3 Years
• walks up steps by alternating feet
• rides a tricycle
• dresses self with supervision
• opens doors
• repeats simple rhymes
4 Years
• able to walk up/down stairs independently
• able to print/write some letters
• dresses and undresses self
• speaks clearly enough for others to understand
• correctly names some colors
• can play together with other children
5 Years
• wants to be like her friends
• counts 10 or more objects
• speaks in sentences of more than 5 words
• stands on one foot for 10 seconds or longer
• uses fork, spoon and (sometimes) a table knife
• usually cares for own toileting needs
