For many of the Heartspring School students, the weekend of May 6-9 was a very exciting time as family members traveled from across the nation for Parent Weekend.
In addition to spending time meeting with their child’s teachers, home coordinators and therapists, parents and siblings were able to participate in workshops and trainings, a parent mixer, barbeque and games, and attend the much-anticipated annual Prom hosted once again by Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.
This special weekend is very meaningful for parents. “We feel so blessed to have found Heartspring for Matthew. We had a wonderful time at Parents Weekend this year. We got to know Thomas’ parents and we even took the boys out to eat and to play miniature golf together. It was really nice to get acquainted with parents that truly understand,” said Matthew’s mom, Jana.
For Heartspring’s director of residential services, Seth Nesmith, 2010 marked his first Parent Weekend. “I greatly enjoyed my first Parent Weekend. Watching the parents interact with their sons and daughters makes you feel good about being a part of Heartspring,” he said.
Cara Rapp, admissions director, oversees all of the Parent Weekend events. “Just when I think a Parent Weekend can’t be more enjoyable, I am proven differently year after year,” she said. “We have such amazing parents that are so deserving of an opportunity to learn from the training that Heartspring provides and build special memories with the children that they so dearly love. I am already looking forward to next year.”
