Children with special needs have the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics Young Athletes Programs tailored to specific age groups, September 16 on the Heartspring campus, 8700 East 29th Street North.
The Motor Skills Program is an innovative sports program that introduces children ages 3-4 with intellectual disabilities to the world of sports. The program focuses on the basics that are crucial to cognitive development: physical activities that develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and the application of these physical skills. The activities include: balance & jumping, throwing, and kicking. This event begins at 6:30 pm in the Heartspring Recreation Center.
The Little Feet Program for children ages 5-7 with intellectual disabilities focuses on the application of motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Activities include soccer, track & field, general fitness and recreational activities. This group will meet at the outside play area at Heartspring at 6:00 pm. Parents and younger siblings are encouraged to participate.
To sign up, contact Terri Price, pricet@ksso.org or 913-236-9290 ext. 106, no later than September 9. Space is limited.
