Heartspring realigns Hearing Center focus

As of July 1, Heartspring will focus its hearing services on children ages birth to 21 and will no longer offer hearing services to adults. This decision came after a series of strategic planning sessions focused on the future of the Wichita non-profit, which has been helping children with special needs learn and grow on a path to a more independent life through outpatient therapies and special education since 1934.

“Our core services have always centered around children,” said Paul Faber, executive vice president of operations. “This change will allow us to direct our attention to pediatric hearing health, which is more closely aligned with our mission.”

Current Hearing Center clients received a letter in mid-May outlining Heartspring’s intention to discontinue adult services. The letter also informed clients that longtime Heartspring audiologists Linda Parmiter-Jacobs and Carol Jared-Brown will be opening a new clinical service, The Center for Better Hearing, where they could continue to receive assistance for their audiology needs.

“We’re grateful that our clients will have access to the same great care and service they experienced at Heartspring with Linda and Carol,” said Kimberly Becker, director of pediatric services.

Children ages birth to 21 will continue to receive hearing services at Heartspring, which include evaluations, auditory processing testing, hearing conservation equipment and training, wax management, and a full range of pediatric hearing aids. Additionally, the Donor Hearing Aid Program at Heartspring will also continue to help provide hearing aids at a minimal cost for children who qualify.

Audiologist Angela Mucci will join Heartspring July 5, taking over all pediatric hearing health services.
