Welcome to Heartspring Connections

Wow - what an exhilarating month April has been! This Autism Awareness Month, we were all encouraged by stories of hope and triumph from around the world. With the United Nations declaring April 2 the first ever World Autism Day, we at Heartspring were busy being interviewed by CNN and local media outlets, as well as a prominent talk radio program in Minnesota. The inaugural Autism CARE Walk at Heartspring was a tremendous success. We invite you to join us as we continue to build autism awareness, and more importantly, autism acceptance.

The Autism CARE Walk
DennisOur son Dennis, or Bubba as we call him, was diagnosed with Autism on January 24, 2007 at 4 years old. We were stunned, we knew he was unique in every way, but we just couldn't wrap our minds around the fact that he had this disorder. We just couldn't see where this fit him. It took a year and a second confirmation of his diagnosis... [more]
ColinOur son Colin is a beautiful, blond-haired, blue-eyed, eight-year-old boy. We first started noticing changes in Colin’s development at approximately 18 months. The signs are all too common to parents of autistic children. Speech regressed, eye contact was difficult, and Colin was literally uncomfortable in his own skin, breaking out in hives a number of times each day. [more]
DylanAlmost a year ago our grandson Dylan was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism and severe ADHD. As a family we knew very little about this disorder, so we started searching the internet, reading articles, and found a few books. We also started looking for Doctors who knew about the latest treatments or anything that might give us... [more]

AdamAdam is the second son born to Scott and Amy. As a toddler he grew gorgeous curly blonde locks of hair and an incredible vocabulary.  Amy and Scott had Adam in a local day care facility when he was 2 years old.  One day Amy went to pick Adam up and a staff member told her, “My son has Autism too.”  Amy was shocked. From the President
Gary W. Singleton, Ph.D.We are overwhelmed by the number of people who helped champion Autism Awareness Month locally, nationally and around the world. Our campus was filled with smiles and excitement on April 12 for The Autism CARE Walk at Heartspring. Over 450 walkers came out to show their support and help raise money that will benefit families living with autism spectrum disorders. Our friend Hope from Stars and Rain in Beijing sent us a letter on April 2, World Autism Day. She wrote, “I am grateful for our kids with autism, they are telling us what is the value of life, what is equal, what is dignity, what is respect, what is civilization in a world!” We are proud to be a part of that world, sharing with parents everywhere in their mission of providing the best life for all children.
