Welcome

Happy Birthday Heartspring! It was 75 years ago this fall that Dr. Martin Palmer founded the Department of Speech Sciences at the University of Wichita that later became the Institute of Logopedics and, of course, is known today as Heartspring. We celebrate this milestone by continuing the work started by Dr. Palmer in 1934 and giving back to the community that has done so much for us including hosting a Special Needs Resource Fair October 10, providing access to organizations helping children and adults with special needs.

Dr. Martin Palmer, Heartspring Founder

Dr. Martin Palmer“No child should be denied a chance just because he cannot speak.” With those words, Dr. Martin F. Palmer came to Wichita determined to give children with communicative disorders a new chance in life. With that determination Heartspring was born. Learn more about Dr. Palmer

AndrewAndrew has made tremendous gains since coming to Heartspring in 2000 when he was 11 years old.  Diagnosed with autism, Andrew did not communicate verbally and often his attempts to communicate resulted in self-injurious behavior. Unable to convey his wants and needs, he was at times aggressive toward his family and school district staff, having up to 500 aggressive outbursts in just one month.  Learn more about Andrew.

KadenErica and Thane wanted to be proactive in Kaden’s development and brought him to Heartspring Pediatric Services when he was just seven weeks old.  Even though Kaden was a baby, he began therapy services and home based early intervention services immediately.  As parents, they wanted to take a progressive approach to Kaden’s therapy services and wanted to give him a head start. Learn more about Kaden.
