Working closely with parents, physical therapists can analyze movement and improve a child's gait, balance, strength, and motor control. The physical therapists at Heartspring Pediatric Services work with children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida and developmental delays related to neurologic dysfunction or prematurity. The physical therapists assess at-risk infants and provide consultation for adaptive equipment; casting, fitting and training parents and children for orthotics. The physical therapy gym at Heartspring provides a colorful, fun setting for children to receive services improving their gross motor skills. Heartspring is one of the few facilities in the state of Kansas which incorporates a computerized pediatric treadmill and gait mat which enhances the ability for a child to learn to walk.
