Chance

ChanceChance, an energetic eight year old has been working with physical therapist, Cheryl Jabara, since arriving at the Heartspring School earlier this year. Currently, he is working on a set of goals aimed at increasing his coordination and balance. Chance is able to go up and down steps with a handrail independently. He is also focusing on running and controlling his body. While working on the balance beam, he is able to walk across with only hand held assistance.

Right now Jabara says the spotlight is also on jumping. “He has a goal for jumping forward 12 inches with a two foot take off and landing; in which he is consistently at 6 inches with good balance. He has shown that he is capable of jumping 12 inches but not consistently yet.”

Throwing and catching a playground ball is another area where Chance is improving in physical therapy. The goal is for him to catch the ball with his hands without using his chest and throw it back to a partner while making eye contact. With the help of physical therapists and other Heartspring staff and professionals, Chance continues making strides toward meeting his goals and increasing his mobility.
