School - Psychology: Behavior Intervention Plan

The psychology staff facilitates the development of the Behavior Intervention Plans, also called Student Support Plans (SSP).  This plan is designed to address the significant behavioral difficulties that interfere with a student’s progress.  As always, we welcome input from parents and parent consent is required before a Student Support Plan or major changes in the SSP are implemented. Each student’s SSP is reviewed and adhered to by all direct care staff at Heartspring.  This is especially important as consistency on one major key to fostering a student’s success.

Erol Behavior ChartThrough using a consistent behavior plan and using shaping techniques, Erol transitioned from wearing the helmet to wearing a baseball cap to eventually not needing anything on his head to protect it.  His self-injurious behaviors have decreased significantly from over 800 per day to less than 100.  We continue to take data on those behaviors, even though the intensity has also significantly lessened.
