5EXPLORING A COMMUNITY<<One of the unique aspects of Heartspring World Reach Training opportunities includes visiting local organizations outside of the Heartspring campus. Visitors can learn how other community organizations for individuals with special needs, such as the Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped (KETCH) Starkey and Envision, operate. (Below) The delegation from Stars and Rain visited Heartspring in September 2014. The group was able to tour KETCH.INCREASED CONNECTIONS<<Through the partnership with Stars and Rain, Heartspring was able to host a delegation from Taiwan of aspiring special education teachers in July 2014 for three weeks. The group toured the campus and observed Heartspring professionals working with students in the classroom, in the community and in the residential setting. The group also spent a lot of time learning about Heartspring practices with various therapists, teachers and staff.(Top) Heartspring President and CEO, Dr. Gary Singleton, joins Heartspring staff and attendees at a conference in China while visiting in 2012. Heartspring professionals traveled to several cities in China visiting new and budding organizations—all members of the Heart Alliance—for children with autism, as well as attended and spoke at local conferences. Many conference attendees included special education professionals, teachers and parents of children with autism aspiring to start their own programs. Heartspring’s partnership with Stars and Rain has also helped increase awareness for autism and the need for services with Chinese government officials.
