5STUDENTSIN THECOMMUNITYEach week, Heartspring Student Dylan patrols the rooms in Birds of Paradise, a local pet store. His face lights up when he sees the birds. It’s not all for fun— it’s a valuable learning experience. He’s part of the off-campus job program designed to help our students grow and learn new vocational and life skills. Dylan has learned a lot in his first year. When he began, he couldn’t fold towels alone, but now he takes on piles with little help. It’s part of our mission to get our students involved in the community and give them more independence. The lessons they receive off campus will help them succeed when they leave Heartspring and transition back to their home communities. Above: Students make snow ice cream on a cold day.
