Certified Medication Aide (CMA) - PRN

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) at Heartspring is responsible for ordering, stocking, and administering medications to the students of the Heartspring Residential School.  The CMA will also ensure that the group homes are in compliance with KDHE regulations for medication storage and labeling. This position is PRN and will be scheduled 28 hours or less per week and may include some Holidays.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Verify accuracy of medications to be administered to students.
  2. Ensure controlled substances are accurately tracked and signatures for any removals are in place.
  3. Administer medications to assigned group homes.
  4. Inventory on-hand medications and order refills as needed.
  5. Setup and complete scheduled medication passes.
  6. Calculate and administer insulin.
  7. Prepare medications for student travel days and parent visitations.
  8. Inventory and restock first aid kits in group homes and classrooms on a monthly basis.
  9. Ensure group homes are in compliance with KDHE regulations regarding medication storage and labeling.   Send report to group homes regarding any issues or violations.
  10. Stock medications in group homes.
  11. Perform and record refrigerator temperature checks twice daily.
  12. Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Perform vital sign checks as ordered or required.
  2. Check in fill cycle medications as they arrive.
  3. Check email communication daily.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL, TRAINING, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must complete 18 hours of in-service training per year.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
  • Must maintain S&PA certification (annual).

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to perform significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Frequent use of computer and keyboard.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional exposure to infectious disease, parasites, bodily fluids, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Potential exposure to physical contact from students, including slapping, hitting, punching, kicking, head-butting, and biting.
  • Occasional exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow/ice.
  • Mandatory use of Heartspring-standard personal protective equipment.
  • Mandatory use of medical protective equipment when required.
