Chief Financial Officer

Primary Functions

  • Provide strategic management of the accounting, finance, and information technology functions.
  • Coordination of the organization's overall financial planning, budgeting, and annual audit processes
  • Studies long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth and sustainability. Analyzes and interprets financial results and trends.
  • Oversees investment of funds and works with investment bankers to raise additional capital.
  • Creates ways to improve the integrity of Heartspring's financial information including communications and employee understanding of financial statements. Recommends improvements to ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Continually evaluates the potential effectiveness of more automation.
  • Ensures consistent methodology for considering IT aspects of business strategy, including capital and operational costs in budgets.
  • Ensures IT performance metrics are aligned with technology strategy and internal controls and audit processes are defined and working properly.
  • Ensures that security and disaster recovery plans and procedures are complete and thoroughly tested.


Secondary Functions

  • Follows and upholds all Heartspring policies and procedures for supervised staff.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Heartspring.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Educational, Training, and Licensure Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance required. A Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • Ten years' experience in accounting or finance required, including a minimum of five years in a management role.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting and/or health care preferred.

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills including a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in database and accounting computer system applications.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, being careful about detail and thorough in completing assigned tasks.
  • Strong persistence in the face of obstacles.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP), and the ability to prepare and interpret financial reports.
  • In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting at a desk and working on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Constant use of overall vision with continuous reading and close-up work.
  • Hand and finger dexterity for frequent repetitive writing, typing, grasping, reaching, and pulling.
  • Hearing and talking skills in person and on the phone.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access various departments of a given location.

Work Environment

  • Office environment, indoors, climate controlled.
  • Occasional exposure to infectious disease, parasites, bodily fluids, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Potential exposure to physical contact from students, including slapping, hitting, punching, kicking, head-butting, and biting.
  • Occasional exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow/ice.
