Pediatric Behavioral Health Therapist

JOB SUMMARY

The Pediatric Behavioral Health Therapist is responsible for providing individual intake assessments and therapy for children and their families who are experiencing behavioral, emotional and psychosocial impairments, including behavioral and mental disorders.  The Pediatric Behavioral Health Therapist works collaboratively with other professionals in Pediatric Services as well as parents, caregivers, and other service providers to provide a coordinated and comprehensive approach to families in need of services.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Complete diagnostic interview on children and families experiencing behavioral difficulties, interpersonal interactions and life management issues; communicate with family in order to obtain necessary background information, presenting problems, and any other information that would contribute to a complete and accurate assessment of the child’s abilities.
  2. Use evidence-based practices to plan and determine the most appropriate intervention tool(s) with input from family and implement the interventions during therapy sessions.
  3. Involve parents/guardians/adult care providers in treatment process, including implementation of recommendations in the home/family environment.
  4. Effectively communicate to child and family the therapy plan, home program and resources to ensure consistent and effective services.
  5. Collaborate and refer children within Heartspring and/or outside professionals in other disciplines when appropriate.Communicate with previous therapy providers when appropriate.
  6. Formulate appropriate goals and objectives per individual child and family needs.
  7. Complete initial evaluation with diagnosis in a complete and timely manner.
  8. Report intervention progress in an accurate, timely, and sensitive manner.
  9. Document all therapy sessions in the Electronic Medical Record. Documentation is due prior to the next appointment or by the first business day of the next month, whichever comes first.
  10. Collaborate with peers and participate in continued education/training.
  11. Meet expected billable hours per month to promote and support program viability and sustainability.
  12. Follow KSBSRB, code of ethics for area of licensure and all Heartspring policies and procedures.
  13. Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintain positive attitude and effective communication skills with other members of Pediatric Services, Heartspring staff and families.
  2. Read and respond to email daily to promote effective communication.
  3. Promote teamwork, positive work place environment, demonstrate leadership, initiative and support good customer service internally and externally.
  4. Participate in professional organizations, attend seminars, conferences or workshops and remain current with literature and technology related to field.
  5. Participate and encourage ideas to enhance new client enrollments.
  6. Complete other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent sitting at desk.
  • Frequent use of computer and keyboard.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching, grasping, pulling.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional exposure to infectious disease, parasites, bodily fluids, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Potential exposure to physical contact from students, including slapping, hitting, punching, kicking, head-butting, and biting.
  • Office environment, indoors, climate-controlled.
  • Occasional exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow/ice.

  • Microsoft Office - proficiency with Microsoft Office component programs.
  • Knowledge/experience of working with special needs population, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Executive Function issues, and other related disabilities.
  • Speaking – the ability to communicate effectively orally in order to convey information effectively.
  • Team-oriented - capable of working effectively within a team environment.
  • Technology – job requires the ability to use/operate a standard computer system and hand-held devices.
  • Time Management - managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Writing – the ability to communicate effectively in writing in order to convey information effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree from an accredited university program.
  • Current Kansas Clinical license.
  • Must maintain current licensure with state of Kansas.
  • Knowledge of current theory and practice related to interventions for children with behavioral difficulties.
  • Must maintain NCI certification.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
