We are looking for a Speech and Language Pathology Assistant with a passion for helping individuals with special needs and an energetic drive to teach, guide, and lead. The individual has to be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Heartspring Speech and Language Pathology Assistants change lives one day at a time. The Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant for Heartspring School is responsible for assisting the Speech-Language Pathologists in their regular duties, working with assigned students, and collecting accurate programming data.  The SLPA also handles many departmental operations, such as scheduling, record-keeping, safety/maintenance of supplies and equipment, and preparing materials.

What distinguishes our residential school from others is its immersive, collaborative approach to learning. Our education system uses evidence-based practices based on the National Standards Project developed by the Autism Center. The SLPA acts as a vital part of the team by providing group and individual sessions, programming and maintenance of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices, documenting student performance, and more.

Our residential school serves children ages five to 21 impacted by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.

Job Duties:

  1. Assist the Speech-Language Pathologists during student assessments, program delivery, research projects, and in-service training.
  2. Program and/or provide instruction in the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices.
  3. Deliver programs, procedures, and protocols as directed by the SLP. Including but not limited to group and individual sessions.
  4. Document student performance in speech-language programming, ensuring accuracy of data.
  5. Assist with scheduling, record-keeping, and other operational duties, as assigned.
  6. Prepare materials and visual supports for student programming, as directed.
  7. Perform regular checks and maintenance on equipment and materials.
  8. Attend regular speech sessions in the classroom and group homes.
  9. Assist SLPs with training of direct care staff and supervisors in the environments.
  10. Foster open communication with SLP team.
  11. Complete assignments by target date.
  12. Prompt and regular attendance is required.



The ideal Heartspring SLPA is a kind, compassionate individual with open, proactive communication skills, a positive, energic attitude, and a team-oriented mentality. They also must maintain S&PA certification each year.

Candidates must have an Associate’s Degree, or equivalent hours and a minimum six months’ experience working with children with Autism and/or developmental disabilities. We have been informed that Kansas guidelines will be changing, so in the future this position will require additional education.
