Heartspring board approves second phase of the Expanding Possibilities campus expansion project

WICHITA, Kan. – Heartspring’s board of trustees approved the construction of the second phase of the Expanding Possibilities project on August 28, 2018. This phase of the campus expansion project entails the construction of the Slawson Family Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) and Music building.

The main goals of the Expanding Possibilities project are to reduce waitlists, develop multi-purpose spaces and create durable and cost-efficient spaces. Over time, the CIE and music programs have grown with the increasing number of students, requiring more space. The new building will allow Heartspring to keep up the need for quality programs to set students on a path to greater independence.

Both programs are critical in Heartspring students’ development and preparation for life post-graduation. The CIE program enables children to learn vocational skills through classroom work, school-based internships and community-based internships, and the music provides an outlet for expression while augmenting education through the arts.

“We are so thankful for the individuals, organizations and businesses who have supported Expanding Possibilities,” David Stupay, Heartspring president and CEO said. “Because of their generosity, we will be able to offer life-changing services to more children in our community. They have become an important part of not only Heartspring’s history but also these children’s futures.”

The $1,105,000 construction project will begin on Tuesday, September 4.
