Heartspring to break ground on Expanding Possibilities campus expansion project

WICHITA, Kan. – Heartspring’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Expanding Possibilities building project is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. on the Heartspring campus. Speakers and guests include Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell and Wichita Businessman and Long-Time Heartspring Supporter Fred Berry. This is a momentous occasion for not just Heartspring but for children with special needs and their families in the Wichita community and across the nation.

“Families filled with fear and anxiety contact Heartspring every day looking for a place for their children, but because of our lengthy waiting lists, we have to tell them to wait months or years until their children can have access to the life-changing programs Heartspring offers,” Heartspring President and CEO David Stupay said. “A construction and remodel is necessary to give us the space and the resources we need to help these families.”

Heartspring provides a wide range of services and therapies through several programs including the Heartspring School, Pediatrics Services and Autism Services. The organization is a resource and, sometimes, the last resort for children with special needs and their families. This is the first campus expansion for Heartspring since the organization moved to its current location in east Wichita in 1998. Since then, the need for Heartspring’s services has grown, but the space Heartspring has available has not. Waiting lists for all of Heartspring’s programs can stretch to months if not years.

“Our hope is that one day we will be able to say yes to every single family that comes to us for services and give them the hope and opportunity they are seeking,” Stupay said.

There are five major components to the project. In phase one, Heartspring will add a new group home, expand on to the pediatric services building to combine both Pediatric Services and Autism Services under one roof while creating more therapy space. The cafeteria and current group homes will also be remodeled. In phase two of our expansion project, Heartspring will get a new building for our Competitive Integrated Employment and music programs.

Phase one is scheduled to finish in December 2017. For more information on the project go to www.heartspring.org/expandingpossibilities
