Registration kicks off for 2017 PedalFest with new gravel ride

WICHITA, Kan.—Registration is now open for the 14th Annual PedalFest presented by Emprise Bank. The event takes place on Saturday, August 26. All rides begin on the Heartspring campus and take cyclists through the city and the surrounding areas. This year, the event offers a number of routes including a 100K, 50K, 25K, 5K Family Ride and, for the first time, a 60K Gravel Ride.

“We want to give riders what they want, and there is definitely a large demand for gravel rides in Wichita,” Special Events Coordinator Hannah Hrencher said. “We are very excited to offer this new option for our participants. We hope this makes the PedalFest experience even better for them.”

The ride benefits Heartspring’s Pediatric Services program. Pediatric Services offers a wide variety of therapies including occupational, physical and speech therapies as well as audiology services to more than 850 local children ages birth to 21. Not all insurance companies consistently cover the therapy costs needs for these children, potentially making it difficult for their families to keep up financially. The proceeds from PedalFest are used to offer free and reduced-fee therapies, allowing the children access to therapies they, otherwise, would not be able to receive. In FY16, Heartspring Pediatric Services was able to award more than $618,000 in financial aid to 474 children.

“Every rider who registers is helping a child meet a milestone once thought impossible,” Hrencher said. “The day of the event is always filled with fun and memories, but the best part is that all of this goes towards helping children with special needs and their families.”

The ride is fully supported with Support and Gear (SAG) Stops on every route for cyclists to rest, rehydrate and replenish. After the ride, participants are invited to join the Post-Ride Celebration on Heartspring’s campus to enjoy lunch, the beer garden, music and family activities. More information at pedalfest.org.
