Heartspring reaches fundraising milestone for Expanding Possibilities campus expansion

WICHITA, Kan. – Heartspring raised $1 million for phase one of its Expanding Possibilities campus expansion. Phase one includes a new group home, an addition to the Pediatric Services and Autism Services building and a remodel of the residential school cafeteria and group homes. With phase one nearly complete, fundraising is set to begin for phase two which will focus on a new building for the residential school’s competitive integrated employment and music programs.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to build reserves over the years that have allowed us to fund a majority of the project,” David Stupay, president and CEO, said. “Initial plans required us to fundraise $1 million to make the project possible. We have a second phase of the expansion and hope to break ground in late 2018, and we will be fundraising through 2018 to fund that project.”

Heartspring provides a wide range of services and therapies to nearly 1000 children through several programs including the Heartspring School, Pediatrics Services and Autism Services. The organization is a resource and, sometimes, the last resort for children with special needs and their families. This is the first major campus expansion for Heartspring since the organization moved to its current location in east Wichita in 1998.

The main goals of the Expanding Possibilities campus expansion are to reduce waitlists, develop multi-purpose spaces and create durable and cost-efficient spaces.

“We are so grateful for the individuals, organizations and businesses who have supported Expanding Possibilities,” Stacie Williamson, Heartspring director of development, said. “Because of their generosity, we will be able to offer life-changing services to more children. They have become an important part of not only Heartspring’s history but also these children’s futures.”

The public will be able to tour the new phase one spaces at the open house on January 11 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information on the project go to www.heartspring.org/expandingpossibilities.
